Join in, care for the coast, then connect with each other and the earth through sand globing! Beach cleanup: 10 am-2 pm Sand globe instruction, play, and creations: 12 noon - 2 pm Beach cleanup: Help protect our oceans and coastal habitats, and make beach-going more joyful, by keeping the beaches in the Golden Gate National Parks clean. Hosted by the Golden Gate National Parks Volunteer Program, a cooperative park-wide effort of the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy, the National Park Service, and the Presidio Trust. For information about the cleanup, and the downloadable volunteer agreement form, see: https://www.parksconservancy.org/events/muir-beach/summer-beach-series-muir-beach Bring a lunch and stay for sand globe making, starting at 12 noon! Sand Globes: Making sand globes feels like magic. Someone said, "It's like making a sand castle in the air." Creating sand art and playing with sand globes brings happiness, and connects us with the coast and each other. Sand globe photo gallery: http://www.sandglobes.org/photos.html At this event, environmental artist Zach Pine will teach everyone to make sand globes (and encourage them to teach others!) Then, as in all his collaborative create-with-nature events, we'll make a spontaneously evolving art installation on the beach. Non-globe creativity involving sand and people is also encouraged of course! We'll also play cooperative sand globe games like "pass the peas" and "large sand globe collider," and invent new ones. Pine has been refining his technique for making sand globes since 2000, and has taught over a thousand people how to make them. Learning to make your first sand globe takes about 5 minutes; it usually takes beginners about ten minutes to make a grapefruit-sized globe. Sand globe making is spreading over the earth through the project Sand Globes Worldwide: http://www.sandglobes.org/photos.html .
